How To Store Your Dishes So They Don’t Smell

How To Store Your Dishes So They Don’t Smell

Introduction

My girlfriend and I live in a two-bedroom apartment. We have one dishwasher, and it’s broken right now. That means that we have to wash dishes by hand. And as you can imagine, that’s not always fun or easy. In order to make things easier for us (and keep from having to constantly do the dishes), we’ve come up with several strategies for storing our dishes so they don’t smell like food or dirt when we’re done using them:

How To Store Your Dishes So They Don’t Smell

Clean your dishes.

Wash your dishes.

A clean dish is a happy dish, and a happy dish is less likely to smell up the room. So before you put them away, give them a good wash with soap and water. The sink or bathtub are both fine places for this step; just don’t use any harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners–they can ruin the finish on your dishes over time! Also avoid hot water when washing dishes; it can cause cracking in the glaze on ceramics (and lead to more stinky smells).

Use a drying rack.

If you want to keep your dishware smelling fresh, use a drying rack. They’re inexpensive and easy to clean–and they allow air circulation around the dishes so they don’t get moldy.

You can buy one at any kitchen supply store or online retailer, but if you want something that looks good and works well, consider making one yourself out of materials like wood or metal (or even rope).

Vacuum seal your dishes.

A vacuum sealer is a handy tool for storing dishes in the freezer. It sucks out all the air from a bag and shrinks it down, which helps keep your food fresher longer.

You can find these at any big box store or online retailer like Amazon. They’re usually not too expensive either–I got one that cost me around $50, but there are ones that cost less than $20 if you want to take a chance on getting something cheaper!

So how do you use one? Just put your dishes into a freezer bag (or other plastic container), then suck out all the air with the machine’s pump. Once all the air has been removed from around your dish(es), seal up both ends of the bag and put it back in storage until you need it again!

Store your dishes in the freezer.

To prevent your dishes from smelling, you can store them in the freezer. The best way to do this is by putting them in a freezer bag and storing them in there until they are ready to be used again. Make sure that your dishes are completely dry before putting them in the freezer, though!

It’s best to store your dishes for up to 3 months at most–after that point, they may start developing mold or other kinds of bacteria that can make you sick if consumed. If possible, try not to leave any food out overnight (even if it’s just an empty bowl). This will help keep smells from attaching themselves onto whatever surface they were sitting on before being put away again tomorrow morning.”

You can store your dishes without them smelling like food, dirt or bacteria if you clean them properly before storage

If you want to store your dishes without them smelling like food, dirt or bacteria, then it’s important that you clean them properly before storing.

  • Clean the dishes with soap and water. This will help remove any dirt or grease from the surface of the dish and prevent any smells from building up on them in storage.
  • Use a sponge to scrub off stubborn stains and scuffs from your plates’ surface. Then rinse off all of this gunk with warm water until all traces of soap are gone! You can even use vinegar if you want to give yourself an extra-clean finish (though some people find this makes their silverware look more tarnished than before).
  • If possible, run them through a dishwasher cycle before putting them away–this will make sure they’re spotless! Just make sure they’re completely dry before placing them back inside their cabinet or cupboard; otherwise mold could start growing on them within days because moisture may still remain trapped inside cracks between pieces while also causing rusting over time due to exposure being too long under open air conditions where sunlight hits directly against metal surfaces such as stainless steel pots/pans etcetera…

Conclusion

It’s easy to store your dishes without them smelling like food, dirt or bacteria. You just need to clean them properly before storage and use the right container for each type of dish. If you take these steps and follow our tips on how to store dishes without them smelling bad then your kitchen will be odor free in no time!
